A moderately easy bike ride to an oasis. Work up a sweat biking along a dry river bed surrounded by hills in shades of yellow and brown with a dip at the oasis.
Har Arkov Rock Carvings (1/2 day to full day)
We begin this trip at the ancient Nabatean city of Ovdat . Explore the city’s ruins which are a part of the ancient Incense Route (a UNESCO Heritage Site). Bike past a research farm that uses Nabatean agricultural methods and then go cross-country to visit Nabatean water holes before biking up a mountain to reach the rock carvings. A moderate to challenging ride.
The Incense Route (2 days)
Cross the Negev via ancient routes used by the Israelites, Nabateans, and Romans. On the way we will pass through Machtesh Ramon, the biggest natural crater in the world. The crater is home to wild life found nowhere else and is known for its coloured rock formations. We will also bike through the Arava, part of the East African Rift valley.
